Inside the Tasting Rooms Sonoma Valley Portworks
Dessert Wines & Much, Much More!
Sonoma Valley Portworks, located in the old Foundry Wharf building along the Petaluma river, specializes in ports, after-dinner wines and grappa. They produce award winning vintages using the best grapes in California and components form the world's great vintners to blend, bottle and taste in their Sonoma facilities.
Sonoma Valley Portworks offers the unique experience of learning about ports, after-dinner wines and grappas from the man who makes them. Bill Reading is passionate about what he does and has a fondness for the sweet, dry, pungent and woody nectars that he creates.
Did you know that ports have natural alcohols infused to stop the fermentation process while leaving the residual sugar in tact? Did you know that grappa was made from the pomace (grape skins, pulp, seeds & stems) of the fruit after the crush? If you didn't, Bill Reading will tell you all about this and more (including the history of port itself) while tasting you on the eight wines they produce.
A specialty at SVP is to pair their wines with food so you can taste how the different characteristics come forth, depending on whether you're having something sweet like a chocolate carmel graham cracker or something nutty like a spanish cheese.
After-dinner wines can add so much to a well-prepared meal or special event….it is a wonderfully elegant way savor the day and the company that make your life so rich.
Sonoma Valley Portworks doesn't charge for their tastings or their food pairings, they feel it's is their duty to educate you on how to enjoy their wines and they are happy to see new faces and acquire new fans.
SVP is located at: 613 2nd Street in Petaluma and can be reached at: 707-769-5203/portworks.com
